Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) helps keep your account safe. We may ask you to confirm your identity when logging in or when completing certain actions within your Fisher Funds Online account.
When you log in, you’ll enter your username and password, then confirm your identity by using a one-time verification code generated by an authenticator app or SMS text message. We may ask you to complete multi-factor authentication if we notice something unusual about your login. This makes it much harder for anyone else to access your account.
You must have at least one authentication method set up to access your Fisher Funds Online account.
Set up MFA
If you haven’t set up MFA yet, you’ll be prompted to do this after logging in.
You can choose to receive your authentication code:
Through an authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or Authy), or
SMS text message (requires a New Zealand phone number)
Set up MFA using an authenticator app
If you don’t already have an authenticator app, you’ll need to download one to get started. You can install an app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android). Once installed, follow the steps below to connect it to your account.
Select Use an app and then select Continue.
On desktop a QR code will appear.
On mobile a one-time setup code will appear.
Add a new account to your authenticator app.
Connect your account:
If you’re accessing your Fisher Funds Online account on a desktop, scan the QR code using your authenticator app.
If you’re accessing your Fisher Funds Online account on your mobile device, select Enter code manually in your authenticator app and paste the one-time setup code shown in your Fisher Funds Online account into your authenticator app.
If you don’t see the code, select Trouble scanning? to reveal it.
Once added, your authenticator app will generate a 6-digit time-based code. The code refreshes automatically – If it expires, you will need to use a new code.
Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app in your Fisher Funds Online account and select Continue.
You’ll be shown a recovery code. Save this somewhere secure. You can use this code if you lose access to your device or authenticator app. Confirm that you have recorded the code and select Done to finish setting up MFA.
The next time you log in with your username and password, we may ask you to enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app. A new code is generated every 30 to 60 seconds adding an extra layer of protection to your account.
You can manage how MFA is setup and change it to a different phone or authenticator app under My Details (in the portal) or More tab (in the mobile app) and then select Manage MFA.
Set up MFA using SMS text message
Select SMS text message and then select Continue.
Enter your New Zealand mobile number and select Continue. Make sure the number matches the one we already have on file for you.
We’ll send a 6-digit one-time code to your phone.
Enter the 6-digit code in your Fisher Funds Online account and select Continue.
You’ll be shown a recovery code. Save this somewhere secure. You can use this code if you lose access to your device. Confirm that you have recorded the code and select Done to finish setting up MFA.
The next time you log in with your username and password, we may ask you to enter the 6-digit one-time code sent to you via SMS text message. A new code is generated each time, adding an extra layer of protection to your account.
You can manage how MFA is setup under My Details (in the portal) or More tab (in the mobile app) and then select Manage MFA.
Remove or reset an authentication method
You can manage how you receive your authentication codes or change it to a different phone, phone number or authentication app under My Details (in the portal) or the More tab (in the mobile app) and then select Manage MFA.
To keep your account secure, we require you to have at least one authentication method enabled.
If you have more than one MFA method enabled, you can remove a method. If you turn off your only method, you’ll need to set up MFA again before you can continue using your Fisher Funds Online account.
Log in to your Fisher Funds Online account.
In the portal, go to My Details.
In the mobile app, tap the More tab.
Under Multi-Factor Authentication, select Manage MFA.
To disable a factor or change how you receive the code, turn off the factor you want to remove or change.
You will be prompted to enter the one-time code from your authenticator app or SMS text message.
Once disabled, you can set up MFA again using a new phone number or authentication app.
If you can no longer access your one-time code or recovery code, contact us to reset MFA.
The fastest way to get back into your account is by using live chat or calling our friendly team on 0508 347 437. If you'd prefer to email us your query, we'll get back to you within 2 business days.
Once your MFA is reset, you’ll be prompted to set it up again when you log in.
How does MFA work?
As part of accessing your online account, we require you to have MFA enabled. We may ask you to complete MFA if we notice something unusual about your login or when completing certain actions. If you use biometric identification (your fingerprint of Face ID) to log in to the mobile app, you’ll only be asked to enter the one-time code when you first set it up, when setting up a new device, or if it has been a while since we last verified your identity.
Log in with your username or email and password.
We may ask you to enter a one-time code. This code will be sent to you via SMS (text message) or generated by your Authenticator App (for example Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator).
Check your phone for the code. If you’re using an Authenticator App, open it on your mobile device.
Enter the code to complete your login.
