Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your account. You can think of it as installing a comprehensive security system for your home. It doesn't just add an extra lock; it provides multiple layers of protection to keep you safe. In addition to entering your usual username and password, MFA asks you to enter a one-time code when you log in to your account.
When you set up MFA you can choose to have this generated by an authenticator app or sent to you via SMS (text message). Since each code is unique and expires within 5 minutes, it makes it much harder for anyone else to access your account.
You can set up MFA in either Fisher Funds Online or in the mobile app.
How to set up MFA
If you want to enable MFA in the mobile app you’ll need to log in using your username and password – not using biometrics (e.g. your fingerprint or Face ID). If you have biometrics enabled on your mobile app, you'll only be prompted to enter an MFA code when registering a new mobile device or after certain app updates.
Log in to your online account then go to the My Details tab (in Fisher Funds Online) or click the More tab in the mobile app. Then click on Multi-Factor Authentication to opt in.
Once you opt into MFA, you’ll be asked to complete the setup the next time you log in to Fisher Funds Online or the mobile app.
Log out and the log back in
You’ll then choose how you want to receive the MFA login code: either by SMS (text message) or through an Authenticator App.
If you choose to use SMS
You’ll be prompted to enter your mobile phone number and click continue. Make sure the mobile number you provide matches the one we have on file for you.
A one-off code will be sent to your mobile phone.
Enter this code to continue and log in to your account
If you choose to use an Authenticator App
Select Google Authenticator or similar
You’ll be provided with a one-time code to copy into your authenticator app. Copy this code.
If you don’t have an authenticator app already (e.g. Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator), you can download one from Google Play or the App Store.
Open your chosen authenticator app and then click on the QR code button.
You’ll then be prompted to ‘scan’ or ‘enter code manually’. Choose ‘enter code manually’
You can choose to name the account under account name (choose a descriptive name to remind yourself what the codes generated are for)
Click secret key to enter the code you copied from Fisher Funds Online or the mobile app
This will now take you back to the main page in your authenticator app where you will see a six-digit code and a timer counting down. This timer is how long the code is valid for.
Enter this code under “enter your one-time code*” in Fisher Funds Online or the mobile app.
You will now be logged in
The next time you log in you’ll simply be prompted to enter a six-digit code which you’ll find in your authenticator app
How does MFA work?
Once you’ve set up MFA you’ll use it each time you log in to Fisher Funds Online or the mobile app. Note that if you use biometic identification (your fingerprint of Face ID) to log in to the mobile app you’ll only be asked to enter a MFA code when you first set it up, and then when setting up a new device, or after certain app updates.
Log in with your username or email and password.
You’ll then be asked to enter a login code.
This code will be sent to you via SMS (text message) or an Authenticator App (for example Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator).
Check your phone for the code. If you’re using an Authenticator App, open it on your mobile device.
Enter the code in the box on the screen.
